How to do-it-yourself instructional on replacing a worn deadbolt lock. Compares the Schlage double-cylinder deadbolt with a lower priced competitor. Oh man, you know you got problems when your key rotates more than three hundred and sixty degrees in one direction. I’m going to replace it and I’ll show you how it’s done. Lucky for me I’m locked in not locked out so I can take care of this without having to break a window. I’ve got a key lock inside as well as outside, recommend it for any door like this that has a window easy for a burglar to smash and reach in and turn a latch. with a double cylinder lock, anybody who reaches in is in for a surprise because if the key’s not there they still can’t open the door very easily. thought we’d take a look inside my locks box. It’s a box of locks. I’ve got an awful lot of locks in here, some interesting stuff. I’ve got the Allen key that opens this lock-set. couple of quick turns… the inside cylinder just drops away and then the outside cylinder also comes off. obviously something’s wearing out. Schlage brand double cylinder deadbolt. Double cylinder meaning there’s a key on both sides. Don’t leave your spare key in there as a latch because that will defeat the purpose. Great video, but you should have showed how to remove the old lock from the door. In your video you just show it open and removing the screws.
why does deadlocks are called this way. I mean what is “dead” really here.
@XX9Allie9XX – No Key? No problem! Remove the inside of the lockset and open the deadbolt with a screwdriver as shown. Good luck!

@jenzeppelin Dogs are way cooler - can’t play frisbee with a box of locks.
I have three locks and a big dog. But any police officer will tell you it is the dog that deters crime moreso than my locks, lol. But I think everyone should have a deadbolt. Or two, or three. Not paranoid, just cautious.
